Barbara Wrońska
Barbara Wrońska has long belonged to the group of the most interesting songwriters and vocalists in Polish alternative music, although her position was built gradually and through several different formations. She was born in Warsaw, has a classical music background, and from the beginning her artistic path moved between instrumental work, composition, singing, and a highly individual approach to songwriting. She first gained broader attention through the band Pustki, which she joined in 2004. At first she appeared there as a violinist and keyboard player on the album 8 Ohm, and in 2007 she became the group’s lead vocalist. This matters because it shows that she did not enter Pustki as an already established...
Artist Trivia
- She first joined Pustki as an instrumentalist, playing violin and keyboards, and only later became the band’s lead vocalist, which makes her path to the front position quite unusual.
- On the 2014 album Safari, most of the music was composed by her, showing that her role in Pustki was not only performative but also deeply authorial.
- Since 2005 she has co-created the duo Ballady i Romanse with her sister Zuzanna, one of the more distinctive Polish projects at the intersection of alternative music, electronics, and song form.
- Songs by Ballady i Romanse were also featured in Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s film The Lure (Córki dancingu), reinforcing the cinematic and multimedia dimension of her work.
