Sławomir Ciesielski

Sławomir Stanisław Ciesielski is a Polish drummer best known as a co-founder and former drummer of Republika, one of the defining Polish rock acts to emerge in the early 1980s, and he is also a member of the Polish Phonographic Academy of ZPAV. The safest documented starting point for his public music career is 1981, when the first Republika lineup was taking shape around meetings and rehearsals at Toruń’s Od Nowa student club. After Republika’s breakup, he stayed active by co-creating Opera, a band formed by former Republika members without Grzegorz Ciechowski. In that project he expanded his role beyond drums and also sang, while the material recorded by the group only surfaced officially several years...
Artist Trivia
- After Republika split up, he co-founded Opera and served not only as its drummer but also as a vocalist, which is one of the less obvious chapters in his career.
- Opera’s 1987–1988 recordings were shelved for years and finally released in 1993 as “Gawliński/Opera 1987–1988”, after Robert Gawliński had already found major commercial success with Wilki.
- Following Grzegorz Ciechowski’s death, he launched the percussion-based project Kije, showing a clear move toward rhythm-centered work beyond classic band drumming.
- He later took part in the Nowe Sytuacje project, where former Republika members brought the repertoire from the band’s debut album back to the stage roughly thirty years after its release.
