Weezer announce “The Gold Album”. New self-titled LP arrives in August
Weezer have announced a new self-titled album, already being referred to by fans as “The Gold Album,” with a release date set for August 21, 2026. Alongside the announcement, the band also released “We Might as Well Be Strangers,” featuring Karly Hartzman of Wednesday.
Weezer are officially returning with a new studio album. On June 3, the band revealed details of their next record, simply titled “Weezer,” which is already circulating under the nickname “The Gold Album” thanks to its gold artwork and the band’s ongoing series of color-coded self-titled releases. The album will be released on August 21 via Reprise Records and Warner Records, marking the band’s 16th studio album and the seventh entry in their self-titled series.
The album will feature 10 tracks. These include the previously released single “Shine Again” and the newly unveiled “We Might as Well Be Strangers,” which features guest vocals from Karly Hartzman of Wednesday. Billboard reports that the project has been described as “the most intense Weezer album ever,” with K Åhl and Kenneth Blume, previously known as Kenny Beats, involved in its creation.
According to the published tracklist, the album also includes “Say Yes,” “Don’t Make It Weird,” “C.E.O.,” “Hoops,” “Nowhere,” “The Show Must Go On,” “Up in the Clouds” and “The LA Sound”. Rolling Stone notes that this will be the band’s first full-length album since 2021’s “Van Weezer”. The announcement also arrives ahead of the band’s fall “The Gathering Tour,” which is expected to support the new release.
