Kayah
Kayah, born Katarzyna Magda Rooijens and earlier Szczot, is one of the most influential figures in Polish popular music of the last decades. She was born on 5 November 1967 in Warsaw and gradually built the position of an artist who combines vocal talent with composition, lyric writing, and production. Her path was never based only on singing songs written by others. Creative independence was important to her from the beginning, and one of the early stages of her career is associated with the 1988 single “Córeczko”. At the same time, in anniversary materials Kayah herself points out that her true authorial breakthrough came only with the album “Kamień” in 1995. It was “Kamień” that firmly established her...

- Kayah is not only a singer, but also a composer, lyricist, and producer, so her position in Polish music also comes from creative control over her own repertoire.
- Together with Tomik Grewiński, she co-founded the label Kayax, which played a major role in the development of the modern Polish alternative-pop scene.
- The 1995 album “Kamień” is often treated as her true authorial debut and one of the more important Polish pop albums of the 1990s.
- She belongs to the group of artists with exceptional stylistic versatility, moving between pop, soul, jazz, folk, and ethnic inspirations.
