Wanda Kwietniewska
Wanda Kwietniewska is one of the most recognizable female voices of Polish 1980s rock, most closely associated with the band Banda i Wanda, now operating as Wanda i Banda. Her standing comes not only from hit songs, but also from the long continuity of a career that began before the group that made her most famous. After finishing school, she studied at the vocal department of the Studium Sztuki Estradowej connected to Estrada Poznańska, and by 1979 she was already co-creating the group Vist alongside other future figures of the Polish music scene. In 1981, that project evolved into Skandal and then into Lombard, with whom Kwietniewska recorded material that marked her entry into the professional recording...
Artist Trivia
- Before becoming the face of Banda i Wanda, she co-created Vist, then Skandal, and later Lombard, so her rise within the Polish rock scene of the 1980s came through several distinct stages rather than one sudden breakthrough.
- She left Lombard in September 1982 and founded her own band as early as November that same year, which shows how quickly she moved from being a vocalist in someone else’s project to leading her own group.
- In Banda i Wanda, she was not only the singer but also a composer, which matters because her creative role extended beyond stage performance alone.
- The band recorded 9 songs for the TV series “Siedem życzeń”, which gave Kwietniewska’s work a strong place in the television pop culture of 1980s Poland.
