Anja Orthodox, born Anna Kumala, née Sabiniewicz, on December 24, 1964 in Warsaw, is a Polish rock vocalist, lyricist, composer, and musician, best known as the charismatic leader and frontwoman of the cult band Closterkeller. She is often called "the first lady of Polish metal and gothic" thanks to her distinctive voice, stage charisma, and unique vocal manner, which has made her a role model for many young female artists in Poland and abroad. Her work balances on the edge of rock, gothic metal, and new wave, and her lyrics are often poetic, introspective, and full of emotional tension.
