Kora
Kora, born Olga Aleksandra Sipowicz (née Ostrowska, previously Jackowska), was a Polish rock singer, lyricist and poet, widely regarded as the “first lady of Polish rock”. She was born on 8 June 1951 in Kraków and died on 28 July 2018 in Bliżów at the age of 67 after battling cancer. From 1976 to 2008 she was the vocalist of the band Maanam, with whom she released eleven studio albums that became milestones in Polish rock. Artist Trivia
- Kora took part in the first Polish hippie gathering in Mielno in 1968 and is regarded as one of the pioneers of the movement in Poland.
- Her nickname “Kora” was given to her by her friend Galia; the singer later associated it with Persephone (Kore) from Greek mythology.
- After finishing high school she worked for nearly two years as a child psychiatry psychotherapist in Kraków before fully committing to music.
- Although she had recorded solo material since 1982, “Ping Pong” in the early 1990s was her first solo album made entirely of new, original songs.
