Anna Maria Jopek is one of the most important Polish vocalists to merge the language of jazz, pop, Polish tradition, and improvisation into a clearly recognizable personal style. Born in Warsaw, she developed musically from an early age, first through classical piano training and later through a much deeper turn toward jazz and her own vocal language. Her connection with music began unusually early, because according to the available sources she recorded her first song for Polish Radio at the age of three and appeared on the stage of the National Philharmonic a few years later.
She gained international recognition not only through Eurovision, but also through her 2002 album collaboration with Pat Metheny, which remains one of the most important milestones in her global profile.
Her path was not a simple move from classical music into pop, because after studying piano in Warsaw she also spent a short period at the Manhattan School of Music, where her fascination with jazz deepened.
She received Michel Legrand’s personal award at the Vitebsk festival in 1994, which was a significant mark of recognition even before her biggest mainstream breakthrough.
