Avi, born Kamil Zalewski, is a Polish rapper, poet and lyricist, and one of the most distinctive lyrical voices in contemporary Polish rap. He is especially associated with poetic writing, vivid imagery and a more classic rap sensibility than many artists from the newer wave. He was born on 21 August 1988 in Algeria and is of Algerian origin, but artistically he is most closely linked with Raszyn and the wider Warsaw area. That biographical mix fits his artistic image quite well, because his persona feels at once street-rooted, literary and shaped by Southern European references.
