Buka, born Mateusz Daniecki, is a rapper and lyricist from Gdańsk who stood out on the Polish hip-hop scene through introspective writing, highly visual metaphors and a darker, more psychedelic atmosphere. In his more recent work, his style has expanded to include clear rock and metal influences, showing that he has not remained confined to one rap formula. The safest point for his musical debut is 2006, when he self-released “Krukologika”. Before reaching a wider audience, he spent years building credibility in the underground, and it was the unofficial release “Opowieści z miasta Fatum” that caught Rahim’s attention and led to a MaxFloRec deal.
In 2007 he joined Skor and Mati to form SumaStyli, and their first outcome was the online EP “Cztery ściany ciszy,” described as a blend of rap, psychedelia and urban poetry.
“Pokój 003” was not a standard debut record, because even its title referred to a psychiatric hospital and was meant to reflect extreme states of mind, which shows how strongly Buka worked with metaphor and concept from the beginning.
His music has long moved beyond pure rap, and official 2023 materials describe “Po drugiej stronie lustra 2023” as a fusion of rap, rock and metal with live instruments and heavy guitars.
