Gaba Kulka
Gaba Kulka, born Gabriela Konstancja Kulka, is a Warsaw-born singer, pianist, songwriter and composer, widely regarded as one of the most distinctive figures in Polish alternative music of the last two decades. Her work blends songcraft with art pop, piano rock, jazz-inflected writing and a literary cabaret sensibility, all grounded in a very strong authorial identity. The earliest securely documented stage of her recording career dates back to 2003, when she made the DIY album “Between Miss Scylla and a Hard Place” at home, performing all the vocal and instrumental parts herself and releasing it independently. That beginning is important because it explains why her career has long developed on her own terms,...
Artist Trivia
- Her debut album, “Between Miss Scylla and a Hard Place,” was recorded DIY-style in her own apartment in 2003, with Kulka performing all vocal and instrumental parts herself and burning the CDs manually.
- The real breakthrough in her career was not her first or second record, but her third album, “Hat, Rabbit,” released by Mystic Production in 2009 and certified gold in Poland.
- She has recorded material connected with both Iron Maiden and Wojciech Młynarski, a striking example of her comfort across radically different musical worlds.
- Her collaborations span a broad artistic spectrum, including Smolik, Olo Walicki, Warszawska Orkiestra Rozrywkowa and Baaba, showing how often she moves between scenes rather than staying in one lane.
