Irena Wanda Jarocka was one of the most recognizable Polish popular music singers, with a career spanning from the mid‑1960s to the early 2010s. She was born in Srebrna Góra near Kcynia and grew up in Gdańsk in modest conditions, discovering early on that music offered an escape from everyday hardship.   • In the 1960s and 1970s she was one of the biggest stars of Polish popular music, with hits like „Motylem jestem”, „Odpływają kawiarenki”, „Wymyśliłam cię” and „Gondolierzy znad Wisły” dominating radio and TV playlists.
  • Before fully committing to the stage, she studied at a teacher training college in physical education and biology in Oliwa and at the State Higher School of Music in Gdańsk, combining pedagogy with professional music education.
  • She refined her vocal craft not only in Poland but also in Paris, including at the Olympia Song Studio as a PAA Pagart scholarship holder, which was an exceptional opportunity for a Polish singer at the time.
  • During her international career she sometimes performed under the pseudonym Irena Jarova, especially in France and Germany.
