Lao Che
Lao Che was one of the most important Polish alternative bands of the 2000s and 2010s, founded in 1999 in Płock by musicians previously connected with the band Koli. From the start, the group approached songwriting broadly, combining rock, crossover, ska, folk, ambient, reggae, and more experimental textures. Its first major step was the 2002 album “Gusła,” conceived as a concept record built around Polish medieval culture. Even there, Lao Che already showed that it did not want to function as a conventional singles band, but rather as a group creating its own worlds, narratives, and internal logic. - The band took its name from Lao Che, a character from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” which gave the group a distinctive pop culture reference from the start.
