Partia was a Warsaw rock band built around Lesław, Arkus and a succession of bass players, first Modern, then Waldek and later Szewko. The exact starting date is slightly disputed, because the encyclopedia entry gives 1995, while Jimmy Jazz catalog descriptions trace the band’s activity back to 1993. Artist Trivia

  • Partia is now widely described as a cult band, and its standing in Polish music history comes not only from strong songs but also from a style that proved unusually hard to imitate.
  • The group’s sound was uncommon for Polish rock of its era, because it fused swing, rockabilly, big beat and punk with references to Polish pop culture from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
  • The 1998 debut album already contained several of the band’s defining songs, including “Warszawa i ja”, “Chłopak czy dziewczyna”, “Piękny chuligan” and “Tydzień i jeden dzień”.
  • On that debut, Partia went beyond the format of a basic guitar trio, adding musicians on saxophone, trombone, trumpet, accordion, flute and keyboards.
