Cała Góra Barwinków
Cała Góra Barwinków, often shortened to CGB, are one of the more important Polish ska-reggae bands, originating from Kłobuck. Their story cannot be reduced to one simple start date, because sources point variously to 1997, 1998 and 2002, but the safest reading is to treat the late 1990s as the beginning of the band and 2002 as the point when the line-up became stable. From the outset, the group was led by Jakub Jan Kaczmarek, and the CGB sound was built around a blend of ska, reggae and rocksteady, catchy melodies and a strongly foregrounded horn section. Artist Trivia
- The band’s name comes from the title of a poetry book by Jerzy Harasymowicz, and Jakub Kaczmarek deliberately wanted a name that would sound unusual and memorable from the start.
- CGB’s history includes three possible starting dates, 1997, 1998 and 2002, which reflects the difference between the earliest roots of the idea, the actual launch of the band and the formation of its stable line-up.
- As early as 2004, the band was invited by Jurek Owsiak to perform during the WOŚP finale, an early sign that it had already moved beyond a local scene profile.
- One of the group’s signature features has long been its prominent horn section, which sets CGB apart from many more guitar-centered ska-reggae bands in Poland.
