Mariza
Mariza, born Marisa dos Reis Nunes on December 16, 1973 in Portuguese Mozambique, is a Mozambique born Portuguese fado singer. Her father was Portuguese and her mother Mozambican, and the family relocated to Lisbon when she was still a baby, settling in Mouraria, one of the historic fado neighbourhoods. Her parents ran a traditional fado house where live music accompanied dinner every night, and young Mariza would hide in the restaurant to keep listening when she was supposed to go to bed. Mariza began singing fado in childhood, before she could even read.
