Stanisława Celińska was a truly singular artist because she belonged, with equal force, to the history of Polish theatre, cinema, and song. The broad public knew her from screen roles in works such as “Krajobraz po bitwie,” “Noce i dnie,” “Alternatywy 4,” “Zmiennicy,” and “Barwy szczęścia,” while music audiences came to value her as one of the most distinctive interpreters of actor’s song and literary song in Poland. Her late recording career achieved remarkable commercial success, with “Atramentowa…” reaching number one on the Polish OLiS chart and earning double platinum status, a major breakthrough for an artist long associated mainly with theatre and film.
She won the Opole Debuts competition in 1969, but even earlier she had already been noticed in the television music contest “Dziewięciu najlepszych,” which led to an appearance at a Niebiesko-Czarni concert.
“Atramentowa rumba,” which preceded her major album phase, was recorded with the band Los Locos, one of the more unexpected turns in her musical path.
Her album “Malinowa…” won the 2019 Fryderyk award for poetic music album of the year, proving that the success of “Atramentowa…” was not a one-off wave of nostalgia but the start of a substantial new chapter.
