Tomek Lipiński
Tomek Lipiński is one of the central figures of Polish rock, new wave, and alternative music from the 1980s and 1990s. He is a singer, guitarist, composer, and lyricist whose work helped shape the language of an entire generation of the Polish independent scene. He was born on 21 August 1955 in Warsaw. After finishing school he briefly studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, but ultimately chose music, and before becoming the leader of guitar-based bands he played percussion instruments. His stage and recording debut is most safely linked with 1979, when he launched Tilt. That group became one of the symbols of Polish new wave and post-punk, and songs such as “Runął już ostatni mur” and “Mówię ci, że”...
Artist Trivia
- Before becoming known as a guitarist and singer, he originally played percussion instruments, which is a less obvious starting point for a future icon of guitar-based Polish rock.
- He co-founded three major projects, Tilt, Brygada Kryzys, and Fotoness, so his career is not built around one legend but several parallel chapters of Polish alternative music.
- He wrote or co-wrote songs that became part of the Polish rock canon, including “Centrala,” “Nie wierzę politykom,” “Runął już ostatni mur,” “To co czujesz, to co wiesz,” “Jeszcze będzie przepięknie,” and “Nie pytaj mnie.”
- His solo song “Nie pytaj mnie” was also used in the film “Psy 2. Ostatnia krew,” and Lipiński composed music for other films by Władysław Pasikowski as well.
