WWO
WWO was formed in Warsaw in 1999 by Sokół and Jędker, with DJ Deszczu Strugi later completing the lineup. The group emerged from the ZIP Skład environment and quickly became part of the central Warsaw hip-hop movement of that era. Their first clearly confirmed step into recorded circulation came in 2000. That year brought the track “Nie mi to oceniać” on the compilation “Hiphopowy raport z osiedla 2000”, followed by the single “Obejrzyj sobie wiadomości” and then the album “Masz i pomyśl”, which reached number 8 on OLiS. Soon after the debut, the group entered into a conflict with BMG Poland and changed the meaning of the WWO acronym to “W Wyjątkowych Okolicznościach”. That shift did not weaken them, because...
Artist Trivia
- WWO grew out of the ZIP Skład circle, which placed the group inside one of the most important Warsaw rap environments of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
- After a conflict with BMG Poland, the group changed the meaning of its acronym from “W Witrynach Odbicia” to “W Wyjątkowych Okolicznościach”.
- “We własnej osobie” received a Fryderyk nomination, reached the top tier of OLiS and, according to the cited source, sold over 60,000 copies, earning double platinum status.
- The single “Damy radę” became one of their biggest breakthrough moments, helping the group reach well beyond a strictly rap-only audience.
