Anna German was a Polish singer, songwriter and actress whose work holds a singular place in the history of Polish popular music. She is best known for songs including “Tańczące Eurydyki”, “Zakwitnę różą”, “Człowieczy los” and “Bal u Posejdona”, as well as for her remarkable vocal culture, lyrical soprano and highly expressive yet restrained interpretative style. Anna German graduated in geology at the University of Wrocław. Rather than emerging from a formal vocal academy, she developed her stage experience through Wrocław’s student theatre and cabaret scene.
Her breakthrough came at the 1964 Opole Festival, where she received second prize for “Tańczące Eurydyki”, a song that was also honoured twice at the Sopot festival.
In 1965, she won the top prize at the Opole Festival for “Zakwitnę różą”, confirming her status as one of the leading Polish song interpreters of the decade.
In 1967, she became the first Polish performer to appear at the Sanremo Music Festival and the first foreign artist to perform at the 15th Naples Song Festival.
