Czerwone Gitary are one of the most important bands in the history of Polish popular music, founded on January 3, 1965 at the Cristal café in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz. The original lineup featured Bernard Dornowski, Krzysztof Klenczon, Jerzy Kossela, Jerzy Skrzypczyk and Henryk Zomerski, and later that same year Seweryn Krajewski appeared with the group before becoming part of its core formation. From the beginning, the band moved quickly into the national spotlight, performing at the famous Non-Stop venue in Sopot, recording for Polish Radio and launching its first concert tour under the slogan “We play and sing the loudest in Poland.” In 1966 the group recorded the album “To właśnie my,” then entered its peak...

Artist Trivia

For a period, Seweryn Krajewski and Jerzy Skrzypczyk performed under the aliases Robert Marczak and Jerzy Geret, because appearing in a beat band could have led to their removal from music school.
The band’s first full-length album, “To właśnie my,” was recorded in just two days, and its first pressing reached 160,000 copies.
In 1969 the group received the MIDEM marble disc in Cannes for the highest record sales in its home country, and the official band biography notes that The Beatles received the same distinction there as well.
After Krzysztof Klenczon left in 1970, Czerwone Gitary largely disappeared from Polish stages for several years and focused mainly on concerts in the former Soviet Union, East Germany and the United States.
