Sistars
Sistars is one of the most important Polish groups operating at the crossroads of R&B, soul, hip hop and funk, built around sisters Natalia and Paulina Przybysz and producers Bartek Królik and Marek Piotrowski, who brought a completely new sound to the Polish mainstream in the early 2000s. The band was formed in 2001 in Warsaw, with the core line up of the two vocalists and the Królik, Piotrowski production duo, which made it possible to combine distinctive soulful vocals with modern, groove driven production inspired by American R&B and hip hop. From their earliest recordings, the group stood out through their natural use of Polish and English, melodic hooks and a clear neo soul influence, which sounded fresh...
Artist Trivia
- Sistars received MTV Europe Music Awards, making them one of the first clearly recognised Polish R&B projects on that international platform and proving their sound reached beyond the local context.
- In their lyrics and production, Sistars consistently blended American R&B and hip hop influences with Polish language and sensibility, becoming the first proof for many younger artists that a modern “Western” sound could be created in Poland without inferiority complexes.
- The line up evolved over time, and alongside the core of the Przybysz sisters, Bartek Królik and Marek Piotrowski, the band featured musicians such as drummers Robert Luty and Marcin Ułanowski and guitarists Przemysław Maciołek and Maciej Mąka, underlining its strong live band character.
- After the group split, the Przybysz sisters launched the project Archeo Sisters as a new space to develop the vocal and songwriting chemistry that audiences had previously associated mainly with the Sistars brand.
