Afromental
Afromental was founded in 2004 in Olsztyn by Tomasz Lach and Wojciech Łozowski. From the start, the band operated at the intersection of rock, rapcore and hip-hop, while often moving into pop, R&B and more radio-friendly songwriting in practice. Its first visible successes came before the debut album, when the group appeared at young-artist showcases and festivals, then began building recognition through the singles that led into “The Breakthru”. In 2007, the band released that debut album, and soon afterward it also appeared in Poland’s Eurovision national selection with “Thing We’ve Got”. The real breakthrough into a broader audience came with 2009’s “Playing with Pop”, which went gold and established...
Artist Trivia
- Afromental drew attention very early with a reggae-style reworking of Vox’s “Bananowy Song”, which earned the band a place in the Gama festival’s “Golden Ten” and a distinction at the Kraków Student Song Festival.
- The group also took a shot at Eurovision exposure, entering the Polish national selection “Piosenka dla Europy 2008” with “Thing We’ve Got” and finishing ninth in the final.
- In 2009, the band expanded into television and film by appearing in the second season of the TV series “39 i pół” and recording songs for the movie “Kochaj i tańcz”.
- “Playing with Pop” gave Afromental its first major commercial breakthrough, reaching number 19 on OLiS and earning a gold certification.
