EABS is one of the key Polish bands associated with the new wave of jazz, founded in Wrocław in 2011 and built from the outset at the intersection of jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk and electronics. Even the full name, Electro-Acoustic Beat Sessions, captures the band’s starting point, because this has never been about orthodox jazz playing alone, but about rhythm, texture and contemporary beat culture treated as a shared creative language. From the start, EABS operated not only as a band but as an idea of “reconstruction and deconstruction,” a way of rewriting musical heritage from jazz to hip-hop in a contemporary language.
Their debut album, “Repetitions (Letters to Krzysztof Komeda),” made enough impact to earn a Fryderyk 2018 nomination for Jazz Phonographic Debut of the Year.
Rather than following a simple path of one standard original album after another, the group has repeatedly built major career chapters around dialogues with large musical figures and mythologies, including Krzysztof Komeda, Sun Ra and Tomasz Stańko.
The idea for “Reflections of Purple Sun” first appeared in 2017, but rehearsals only began six years later, and the first recording session took place in Tomasz Stańko’s apartment in 2023.
