Habakuk is one of Poland’s longest-running reggae bands, closely tied to Częstochowa and built around the leadership of Wojciech “Broda” Turbiarz. Although the band was formally founded in 1990, its roots go back to 1989 and the jam sessions between members of Engaddi from Częstochowa and Samuel from nearby Będzin. In its early phase, Habakuk developed as a reggae act with a broad and shifting lineup, soon expanded by a brass section and a strong visual and performance element shaped by Artur Szumlas. Artist Trivia

The band’s name comes from the biblical prophet Habakkuk, which gave the project a distinctive identity from the very beginning.
In 1993, Habakuk suspended its concert activity and began searching for a new artistic language, which led to projects such as Ragga Party, Family Front, the Rub Ritual theatre concept and various happenings.
In 1997, rap entered the band’s sound through Piotr “Dziki” Chrząstek, leader of the hip-hop group Sektor B, creating an early crossover between reggae and urban music scenes.
In 1999, Habakuk performed as a support act for Mad Professor and Macka B in Chorzów and Warsaw, which was a major international validation for a Polish reggae act.
