Jamal
Jamal is a Polish band from Radom that blends reggae, raggamuffin, dancehall and broader independent music, gradually evolving from a hip hop centred duo into a full scale live outfit with a strong instrumental backbone. The group was founded in 1999 by vocalist and songwriter Tomasz “Miodu” Mioduszewski and bassist, producer Łukasz Borowiecki, initially focusing on rap before slowly shifting towards reggae and dancehall inspired sounds. Artist Trivia
- Jamal originally operated as a rap focused duo of Miodu and Łukasz Borowiecki, and only their growing fascination with reggae and raggamuffin pushed the project towards becoming a full band with a live line up.
- The band’s demo caught the attention of the Pomaton EMI label, which offered them a record deal and led to the release of their debut album “Rewolucje” on 18 June 2005.
- “Rewolucje” and subsequent releases feature guest appearances from artists such as GrubSon, Cheeba, DJ Bart and beatboxer Zgas, underlining Jamal’s deep roots in the broader hip hop and reggae community.
- International presentations of the band, including WOMEX materials, emphasise that Jamal combines reggae, ska, ragga, punk and even hardcore, which accurately reflects the diversity of their live repertoire.
