Sweet Noise was founded in 1990 in Swarzędz by Piotr “Glaca” Mohamed and Tomasz “Balbina” Maćkowiak. From the beginning, it was a heavy band, but its style never stayed inside a single box, because alongside hardcore and metal it also absorbed rock, industrial elements, electronics, and later even hip-hop and ethnic influences. The group played its first concert in 1991 at Club Rejtan in Poznań, and the next few years took it from local demo recordings to a much stronger festival position. The breakthrough came in 1994 and 1995, when Sweet Noise collected festival recognition in Jarocin and Węgorzewo, signed with Izabelin Studio and released its debut album “Respect”. By the mid-1990s, Sweet Noise had already moved beyond the local circuit, because after festival success the band played Le Printemps de Bourges in France, appearing before acts such as Megadeth, Machine Head and Therapy?.
The video for “Cisza” caught MTV’s attention and was aired on “Headbangers Ball”, which was a major sign of international visibility for a Polish heavy band at that time.
The album “Getto” featured guests from very different musical worlds, from Natalia Kukulska and Anja Orthodox to members of Vader, showing that the band was comfortable crossing scene boundaries early on.
Sweet Noise supported Black Sabbath in Katowice’s Spodek and also played Wacken Open Air, which confirms that the group was not only important in Poland but also present in a meaningful international context.
