Krystyna Janda

Krystyna Janda is one of the central figures of postwar Polish culture, best known as a film and theatre actress, but also active as a director, author and performer of literary and theatrical song repertoire. Born on 18 December 1952 in Starachowice, she trained in Warsaw and made her early stage-screen breakthrough while still a student, appearing in Television Theatre in 1974 as Masha in “Three Sisters”. She reached a wide audience with Andrzej Wajda’s 1976 film “Man of Marble,” where her portrayal of Agnieszka introduced a sharp, determined and modern female presence that became iconic in Polish cinema.
