Marek Jackowski
Marek Jackowski was one of the most important Polish rock guitarists and composers, most closely associated with Maanam, the band he co-created and guided for years as its main musical author. He was born in Stary Olsztyn, grew up in Warmia, and his earliest confirmed musical activity leads from the high school band Kleks to the Łódź group Impulsy and later Vox Gentis. A major pre-Maanam chapter was his work with Anawa between 1969 and 1971, when he recorded the albums “Marek Grechuta & Anawa” and “Korowód” with the group. He then founded Osjan with Jacek Ostaszewski, and in the mid-1970s he and Milo Kurtis created the project that, after personnel and stylistic changes, evolved into Maanam. It was in Maanam...
Artist Trivia
- In 1969, the magazine “Jazz” described him as a “precursor of the Polish underground”, which shows that his significance was recognized well before Maanam reached its peak fame.
- In Anawa, he was not only a supporting player, because he wrote the instrumental piece “Widzieć więcej” for the album “Korowód”.
- Before Maanam became a rock band, it grew out of the Sensacyjna Grupa Okazjonalna founded by Jackowski and Milo Kurtis, and only later adopted the name Maanam.
- Jackowski was the main composer of Maanam’s material, even though Kora remained the most visible public face of the band for many listeners.
