Mech
Mech is a Warsaw rock band formed in 1977 under the patronage of the “Mechanik” club at the Warsaw University of Technology, and some sources also use the expanded name Zjednoczone Siły Natury Mech. The group made its confirmed public debut in July 1979 during the Muzyka Młodej Generacji event in Sopot, which is the safest documented starting point for its stage career. By the early 1980s, Mech was operating as a quartet featuring Maciej Januszko, Janusz Łakomiec, Robert Milewski, and Andrzej Dylewski, while building a reputation as both a concert band and a visually ambitious act. The group played major Polish rock events, recorded archive sessions for Polish Radio, produced music videos and a TV recital,...
Artist Trivia
- In 1981, Mech staged the music spectacle “Podróże Guliwera,” using laser-based visual design, quadraphonic sound, and special costumes, which was unusually ambitious for Poland’s early 1980s rock scene.
- The band went beyond a standard rock setup by performing with a string quartet, a brass section, and jazz musicians including Tomasz Stańko and Tomasz Szukalski.
- Mech appeared at major Polish rock events around 1980, including Jarocin ’80, Pop Session ’80, and Rock na Wyspie in 1981, which places them firmly inside that formative live circuit.
- Both of the band’s classic studio albums, “Bluffmania” and “Tasmania,” were released in 1983, concentrating the core output of its first era into a very short period.
