Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are an Australian rock band with strong post punk, gothic rock and alternative roots, formed in Melbourne in 1983 after the breakup of The Birthday Party by Nick Cave, Mick Harvey and German guitarist Blixa Bargeld. Initially, the group functioned as a backing band for Cave’s solo project “Man or Myth?”, featuring musicians such as Barry Adamson and Jim G. Thirlwell, before they formally adopted the name Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and started operating as a full fledged band. - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds emerged directly from the breakup of The Birthday Party, and their name was inspired by the earlier song “Bad Seed”, linking the two eras of Cave’s career.
