From the start, the group stood out because it did not simply imitate Western beat music, but fused it with Polish folk material and skiffle aesthetics, creating a sound strongly identified with late-1960s Poland. The band quickly established a recognizable classic line-up. Sources linked to the late-1960s recordings name Piotr Janczerski, Jerzy Rybiński, Aleksander Kawecki, Bogdan Borkowski, Jerzy Grunwald, Jerzy Krzemiński and Jan Stefanek as the musicians behind its best-known early form. Artist Trivia
- No To Co are often treated as one of the best-known representatives of early Polish rock, even though their sound was deeply rooted in folk material from the beginning.
- The band first operated as “Grupa Skifflowa Piotra Janczerskiego” before adopting the name “Grupa Skifflowa No To Co.”
- One of their signature traits was the combination of folk-inspired stage costumes with a broader instrumental palette that included 12-string acoustic guitars, violins, flutes and harmonicas.
- In 1970, the group recorded the English-language album “So What,” showing that it also aimed beyond a strictly domestic repertoire circuit.
