Oberschlesien was founded in 2008 in Piekary Śląskie by drummer Marcel Różanka. From the outset, it was conceived as an industrial metal project rooted in Upper Silesia, with lyrics written in Silesian and a strong emphasis on regional identity. The early lineup included, among others, Michał Stawiński, Wojciech Jasielski, Adam Jurczyński, Jacek Krok and Mateusz Buhl. The first clearly confirmed release was the single “Hajmat 2012”, but the real breakthrough came with the fourth season of “Must Be the Music”, where the band reached the final stage and finished second. Artist Trivia

From the beginning, the band built its identity around the Silesian language rather than treating it as decoration, using lyrics to promote the region and emphasize Silesian identity.
Oberschlesien broke into wider public awareness through “Must Be the Music”, where it performed the Silesian-language Rammstein cover “Jo chca” and finished in second place.
Comparisons to Rammstein are not only about sound, but also about the band’s large-scale live presentation and use of pyrotechnics.
Marcel Różanka has cited not only Rammstein but also Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, new romantic acts and classic hard rock and heavy metal as key influences, which helps explain the band’s electronic-metal hybrid.
