Abaddon
Abaddon is one of the important bands in the history of Polish hardcore punk, founded in Bydgoszcz in 1982. The group was formed by vocalist Mirosław “Wolf” Wolf, guitarist Bernard “Benek” Szarafiński, bassist Tomasz “Lutek” Frost and drummer Tomasz “Perełka” Dorn, and in its earliest phase it still operated under the name Partyzantka Miejska. The band gained wider attention after appearing at the Jarocin Festival in 1983. Soon afterward, there was a major lineup change when Wolf was replaced by the group’s former manager, Waldek “Kiki” Jędyczowski, and this became the lineup most strongly associated with Abaddon’s legacy. - The band first operated under the name Partyzantka Miejska before adopting the name Abaddon.
- Jarocin was crucial for the group, first introducing it to a wider audience in 1983, and then bringing the band back for the 1984 and 1985 editions as well.
- The song “Kto?” appeared on the compilation “Fala” in 1985, placing Abaddon inside one of the important compilation circuits of the Polish punk scene.
- The story behind “Wet za wet” is unusual, because the Ljubljana recording session was financed from fees earned on a Yugoslav mini-tour arranged through journalist Peter Barbarić from “Mladina.”
