Siekiera
Siekiera is a Polish band from Puławy that evolved from one of the most brutal and legendary punk acts of the Jarocin festival into a group associated with cold wave and new wave through the landmark album Nowa Aleksandria. The band was formed in the second half of 1983 out of the earlier group Trafo, and its founding members were guitarist and lyricist Tomasz “Dzwon” Adamski, vocalist Tomasz “Budzy” Budzyński, bassist Jerzy “Sex” Janaczek and drummer Ireneusz “Borys” Czerniak. In its first phase, Siekiera played extremely raw and intense punk, quickly becoming one of the key symbols of the 1980s Jarocin scene and a cult punk band in Poland. A crucial early moment was the Rock Front show on April 6, 1984,...
Artist Trivia
- Before Siekiera existed, Adamski and Budzyński played in the Puławy band Trafo, which covered Western punk acts such as UK Subs and The Exploited.
- The early five-piece Siekiera line-up with Malina, Koben and Szewczyk made a strong impact at the Rock Front show, which is often cited as the moment the band truly broke across the Polish punk scene.
- The Siekiera era with Budzyński (1983–1984) is described as the band’s most ferocious, hardcore-oriented incarnation, starkly different from the cold wave mood of Nowa Aleksandria.
- Nowa Aleksandria, released by Tonpress in 1986, is entirely built on Tomasz Adamski’s artistic vision, with all music and lyrics written by him.
