Acid Drinkers
Acid Drinkers is one of the most important bands in the history of Polish thrash metal and heavy music in general, founded on September 21, 1986 in Poznań by Tomasz “Titus” Pukacki and Robert “Litza” Friedrich. From the start, the group combined thrash metal with heavy metal and hardcore punk influences, which helped it develop a sound that was aggressive and technical, but also packed with irony and stage charisma. The first line-up featured Titus and Litza alongside Dariusz “Popcorn” Popowicz and drummer Piotr “Chomik” Kuik, while Maciej “Ślimak” Starosta later became the key rhythmic figure of the classic era. The safest confirmed live debut date is August 26, 1989, when Acid Drinkers performed on Słodowa...
Artist Trivia
- The band’s Instagram uses the slogan “Genuine Polish Hi-Voltage Metal est. 1989,” which interestingly highlights the year of public breakthrough rather than the formal founding date of 1986.
- The classic line-up of Titus, Litza, Popcorn and Ślimak recorded seven studio albums together before Litza left the band at the end of 1998.
- Acid Drinkers has long embraced cover songs, and the official video circulation strongly features tracks such as Love Shack, Hit The Road Jack and Another Brick in the Wall.
- In 2021, an expanded live release connected to the band’s Przystanek Woodstock 2014 and Pol’and’Rock 2019 performances was issued, underlining how strong Acid Drinkers remained as a live act even after decades on the scene.
