Andrzej Piaseczny
Andrzej Piaseczny, also known as Piasek, is one of the key Polish pop singers whose position has remained strong from the 1990s into later decades. He was born in Pionki, and before entering the professional circuit he sang in the school band Cavatina and studied music education in Kielce. His professional breakthrough is most safely tied to 1992, when he joined the band Mafia. With the group he recorded three albums, while also building his own visibility through appearances such as the young talents competition in Wrocław and the Debiuty concert in Opole. Even at that stage, he was already moving fluently between more guitar driven material and highly accessible mainstream songs. The real turning point...
Artist Trivia
- Before becoming a major solo star, his voice powered one of the biggest commercial successes of 1990s Polish pop, Robert Chojnacki’s “Sax & Sex,” which his official biography says sold more than 800,000 copies.
- Although he is mostly associated with pop, he started in Mafia, a band whose early records had a stronger rock edge, and he later kept returning to more mature and musically layered forms of mainstream pop.
- He represented Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 with “Too Long,” making it one of the most visible international moments of his career.
- For more than a decade he was present not only on stage but also in mass audience television, playing Kacper Górniak in the series “Złotopolscy” from 1997 to 2010.
