Tomasz Kleyff, known as CNE, short for Człowiek Nowej Ery, is one of the more recognizable and multi-role figures in Polish hip-hop. Born in Warsaw, he has been active since the late 1990s as a rapper, freestyle MC, lyricist, host, and promoter of rap culture. The safest musical debut date is 1998, because the description of his official YouTube channel states that this was when he entered the rap scene and began working with Wujek Samo Zło and DJ 600V. That point matters because it places him among artists active during the formative years of Polish hip-hop, before the scene fully entered the mainstream. CNE stands for “Człowiek Nowej Ery,” but he has also long been known under the alias Cennik, which reflects his layered identity within Polish rap culture.
From early on, his activity extended beyond recording, because he co-hosted hip-hop TV shows such as “Rap Kanciapa” on Viva and later “Rap Pakamera” on MTV Polska.
As part of the duo WSZ & CNE, he released two full albums, “Te-Rap-Ja” and “Jeszcze raz,” and that project remains one of the most firmly remembered parts of his catalog.
He was also part of wider crews important to the history of Polish rap, including Gib Gibon Skład and Baku Baku Skład.
