Ofelia, born Iga Aleksandra Krefft, belongs to a group of artists who very deliberately separated their music careers from the visibility they gained in television and film. Although the wider public long associated her primarily with acting, she has spent years simultaneously building her own language as a singer, lyricist, and composer. Her connection with music began early, as she attended music school in Gdańsk and appeared at the age of twelve in Akademia Pana Kleksa at Warsaw’s Roma Musical Theatre. Before fully committing to her career as Ofelia, she sang in the bands Mind Revision and Daisy and the Moon, which means her musical path began through group work rather than immediately as a solo project.
Her first stage debut happened in childhood, when she appeared at age 12 in the musical Akademia Pana Kleksa at Warsaw’s Roma Musical Theatre, showing that her relationship with performance long predates her recording work as Ofelia.
For many years her public recognition was strongly tied to acting, including M jak miłość, but the Ofelia project was built from the outset as a separate and deeply authorial artistic space.
Her second album 8 was released on her 27th birthday, and the record itself was conceived around eight characters functioning as alter egos, which gives it a strong conceptual dimension.
