Pati Yang, born Patrycja Vernhes and née Grzymałkiewicz, is one of those Polish artists whose career always felt more author-driven and international than conventionally local-pop oriented. She was born in Wrocław, and entered the world of professional music very early, spending her childhood around concert life connected to her mother and Lady Pank leader Jan Borysewicz. Her proper artistic debut came in 1998 with the album Jaszczurka, which remains a key reference point in any account of her career. She spent the first eight years of her life on concert tours with her mother and Jan Borysewicz of Lady Pank, which means she grew up inside the realities of live and studio music long before her own solo career began.
Her second album Silent Treatment was recorded at London’s legendary Air Studios, owned by George Martin, placing her in a distinctly international production environment.
During that period she worked with producer Steve Hilton, known for collaborations with Massive Attack, U2, Depeche Mode, and Pulp, which helps explain the weight and polish of that phase of her sound.
She also contributed to film music, with sources linking her to soundtracks for Tomorrow Never Dies, Code 46, Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, and A Mighty Heart.
