Ascetoholix is a Polish hip-hop group founded in 1999 in Oborniki near Poznań. The band’s most recognizable lineup consisted of Doniu, Kris and Liber, and the group played an important role in the rise of widely accessible Polish rap in the early 2000s. The group’s name does not refer to asceticism in a literal sense, but rather to the idea of moral discipline, understood as avoiding conformity and easy paths in favor of honest work. This reflected their early way of operating, based on independence, local roots and the gradual building of recognition outside the main centers of the scene. Their beginnings go back to the underground demo “3xlak” from 1999, followed by “Nazwij to sam” in 2000 and “A” in 2001....
