Dżem is one of the most important Polish blues-rock bands, founded in 1973 in Tychy by brothers Adam and Benedykt Otręba together with Paweł Berger. The group emerged from a fascination with blues, rock, and improvisation, and even its name came from the Polish spelling of the English word “jam,” reflecting the spirit of collective playing and musical spontaneity. From the beginning, Dżem built its identity around emotional vocals, guitar-driven sound, and lyrics that explored everyday life, rebellion, loneliness, and the need for freedom. Artist Trivia
- The name Dżem comes from the Polish spelling of the English word “jam,” reflecting the idea of collective playing and improvisation.
- Ryszard Riedel joined the band in 1973 and quickly became its most distinctive voice and symbolic frontman.
