Lizard
Lizard is a Polish band from Bielsko-Biała, founded in 1990 by vocalist Damian Bydliński and guitarist Mirosław Worek. From the beginning, the group shaped its identity around progressive and art rock influences from the 1970s, especially Emerson, Lake & Palmer, UK and King Crimson. The band’s early years were spent recording demos and playing extensively live. A breakthrough came in 1996, when Lizard signed with Ars Mundi, and soon afterward released the debut album “W galerii czasu.” During the second half of the 1990s, the group became increasingly visible on the progressive scene. - The band’s name was taken directly from the title of King Crimson’s third album, which immediately reveals one of the key roots of Lizard’s inspiration.
- For the first six years, the group focused on demo recordings and live performances before achieving an official release breakthrough.
- One of Lizard’s biggest career highlights was opening for Emerson, Lake & Palmer at Katowice’s Spodek in June 1997.
- In that same year, the band also supported Porcupine Tree at the Kraków Philharmonic.
