Florence + The Machine
Florence + The Machine is a British music project operating between indie rock and art pop, founded in London in 2007 by Florence Welch and Isabella Summers, and from the start it functioned more like a band organised around a strong central vision than a rigid, fixed rock line up. The name itself grew out of the earlier joking identity “Florence Robot/Isa Machine”, which already hinted at the project’s slightly mythic and self created artistic world. The breakthrough came with the 2009 album “Lungs”, which marked the point where Florence + The Machine achieved both major commercial success and strong critical recognition in the UK and internationally.
