• Hanna Banaszak is one of the key Polish vocalists to successfully combine jazz sensitivity with literary song and sophisticated stage repertoire. She was born on 24 April 1957 in Poznań, and that city is closely tied to her artistic beginnings, even before she reached national visibility.
• Her most clearly documented breakthrough came in 1976 at the Polish Song Festival in Opole, where she appeared in the “Young Talents” concert. That performance opened the door to a professional career and quickly drew attention to her distinctive voice and mature interpretive style.
• Between 1977 and 1979 she worked with the band Sami Swoi, an important formative period in her artistic development. During those years she became closely associated with jazz-oriented circles, yet from the start she refused to be confined to a single musical language.
• She launched her solo career in 1980 and from then on steadily built a repertoire and identity of her own. Her singing has long been associated with elegance, subtle phrasing and close attention to lyrics, which allowed her to move naturally between jazz standards, poetic songs, ballads and Latin-influenced material.
