SKÁLD

SKÁLD (stylised in all caps) is a French Nordic folk collective formed in 2018. The project was created by producer/composer Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet, who remains the sole constant member and adapts the repertoire from Norse texts. Initially, the group included singers and musicians Justine Galmiche, Pierrick Valence and Mattjö Haussy, combining low male voices with a prominent female lead. SKÁLD’s artistic focus is on Scandinavian culture, especially Norse mythology, and they predominantly use Nordic languages in their songs. Many lyrics are drawn from Old Norse sources, sagas and poems, reimagined as atmospheric songs with high contrast vocals and strong percussive foundations. Official descriptions...
