Artist Trivia
- Skalpel built its signature sound by sampling Polish jazz records from the 1960s and 1970s, including material connected to Krzysztof Komeda, Tomasz Stańko and Novi Singers.
- Igor Pudło first crossed paths with DJ Vadim through an interview for the Polish hip-hop magazine “Klan,” and Vadim later invited the duo to tour Poland with Russian Percussion.
- After returning from that tour, Skalpel released the CD-R “Polish Jazz,” and despite its limited distribution, the release generated enough acclaim to lead to a Ninja Tune deal in 2001.
- The duo spent three years working on its debut studio album, which reflects how carefully it constructed its sample-based language.
