Kult grew out of the earlier bands Poland and Novelty Poland, so it was rooted in a specific musical scene from the very beginning rather than appearing as a disconnected new project.
The group’s instrumental setup and live sound long set it apart from many Polish rock bands, especially through its use of brass instruments and a broad stylistic range.
Its debut album was recorded in 1986 but released only in 1987, reflecting the realities faced by independent and politically inconvenient artists at the time.
